We are always in need for flight volunteers travelling from Istanbul to the USA, Canada and Europe. Flight volunteers save lives. Please consider becoming a flight volunteer and email us your flight details today.
Sending an animal with a passenger (rather than alone) often makes the cost of adopting an animal abroad much more affordable.
For instance, a dog travelling from Turkey to USA can cost as little as $320, however if sent via cargo unaccompanied costs over $5,000.
It's very easy to be a flight volunteer and you save lives by taking a rescued animal to their adoptive family.
We have sent countless number of pets to the USA, Canada and Europe over the past 3 years. We are very experienced in this area making it a very smooth process for everyone involved. We organise everything and guide you at every step of the journey.
How Does It Work?
Flight booking - We will call the airline on your behalf to book the animal onto your flight.
Flight cost - Volunteer who brings the animal to the departing airport will pay for the cost.
Documents and Vaccination- We will organise all the necessary vaccinations and paperwork needed for the animal to leave the country.
Dogs normally travel in cargo section of the aircraft and cats either in cargo or cabin.
Airport in Istanbul
On the day you fly, a Help Street Cats and Dogs volunteer will meet you at the airport and hand over the animal along with the paperwork required to take the animal to its destination and can also help you check-in process. You just go through the security and passport control as normal.
Once you have arrived at the airport of your destination, pick up the animal at a special luggage counter and after passing through customs you can hand over the cat or dog to the adopter.
The contact details of the Help Street Cats and Dogs representative and the adopters details will be shared with you just in case any issues on the day of the flight.
If you agree to be a flight volunteer, all you need to do is provide the details of your flight booking reference or ticket number, your full name and picture of your copy for the export certificate.
Fostering a cat or dog is perhaps one of the most rewarding experiences you can have (other than adopting, of course). By offering your home to an animal in need on a temporary basis, you are saving them from a life on the streets, and giving your foster cat or dog the time needed for adoption preparations.
We depend on foster carers who lovingly open their hearts and their homes, offering temporary accommodation in Istanbul. We would not be successful without it!
How It Works
You care for the animal until they are homed. Time period can range from 1-6 months. We cover the cost of veterinary care, if you are able to take the animal to one of our preferred veterinary clinics. Otherwise, take the animal to your nearest veterinary clinic for treatment and we will reimburse the costs.
Please consider becoming a foster carer for one of our many cats and dogs in need. If you are interested in fostering, contact us today.
We have a variety of volunteers who all work very hard to achieve our vision. You will need a willingness to commit to hard work, and a passion to help the cats and dogs in Turkey. A love of animals is essential but you’ll also need to be hard-working, motivated, friendly and mature. Being a volunteer is immensely rewarding and fulfilling experience but it also requires commitment on your behalf.
It takes an international village to rescue an animal. We depend on our volunteers for every aspect of our organisation: from fostering rescued cats and dogs, transporting cats and dogs to foster or forever families, taking animals to the veterinarian for treatment, coordinating adoption logistics to name a few! Each of these duties makes a huge difference in the lives of the animals we rescue.
